Angel Abellar is a rising star in the Philippines music scene – let’s get to know her a little better
Angel Abellar is a rising star in the Philippines. She has recently been signed to independent music label Paradream Records.
Thank you for taking the time to speak with All Access Asia today. Could we start off with you telling us a little about yourself?
I’m Angel Abellar, and I’m 19 years old. I was born in Cebu City in the Philippines. I am now living in Cataban, Talibon, Bohol. I like to play guitar, I like dancing and singing and I also teach children how to sing. I grew up with my grandma and grandpa
How did you get involved in music?
Actually, I’ve been singing ever since I was a young child, and it’s because of my grandma who discovered my talent in singing.
You do a lot of covers, do you have a favourite?
Yes, and I particularly like the song from Lady Gaga, “Always Remember Us This Way”.
How has your music/sound evolved over time?
I think that my sound has gotten better through performing at every opportunity I’m given. I do lots of practice and live events
Who/what are your biggest influences when it comes to developing your own sound?
For me, my family are my biggest influences when it comes to music and my sound.
Who/What is your biggest inspiration when it comes to creating music?
The people around me were my biggest inspiration for this not just my family but also my friends.
If you could pick any artist to collaborate with, who would it be and why?
I like Jessie J or Lady Gaga because they both conquer the stage especially when they perform.

What’s the recording process like for you?
I sometimes find the recording process challenging, but it’s a challenge that I like and I get the opportunity to learn more and hone my craft, and I’m okay with that.
Is there a musical style/genre that you haven’t tackled yet, that you’d like to experiment with?
I think operatic music is the only genre that I haven’t tried yet haha.
What are you listening to at the moment?
RNB songs.
What sort of artist do you aspire to be?
I aspire to be like Miley Cyrus and Jessie J.
What’s coming next for you? What are your plans for the next 12months?
I think I would like to continue my study while doing performances and singing.
