Who knew – GiKwang is going to become a ‘Predator’ with his new release
By now you all know, or should know that Lee Gikwang is my ultimate bias – and has been for a long time.
I love everything he does and I’ve been waiting for a new solo release F-O-R-E-V-E-R! And, finally my wait is over.
Lee Gikwang‘s first full album ‘Predator‘ and the title track ‘Predator‘ was released on April 17, 2023. What a joy the title track is.
His previous release ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes (D.C.Y.E)‘ which was released in 2019 is still on high rotation on my personal playlist – not to mention the MV! ‘Predator‘ is on the fast track to being added to that high rotation listing as well.
Both songs have a similar vibe and feel to them. In a way they also have a very similar sound and feel to Taemin‘s solo material. Gikwang‘s performance on ‘Predator‘ is cool, understated and smooth. The song has a continuous and powerful beat – it doesn’t pound you out of your seat, but it’s satisfying and consistent, and a definite ear-worm.
The track is evocative, atmospheric and has a driving percussion that keeps the track moving on the beat. The vocals are mesmerising with their airy and dreamy qualities. They float over the synths that bring the track to a whole new level.
As you would expect from a Gikwang MV, the choreography is impressive – it’s diverse and intricate but completely fits the song and the sexy vibrancy that is being conveyed throughout the entirety of the MV.
Are we fans? It’s Gikwang of course we are!
Lee Gi Kwang ‘Predator’
Soon after the release of ‘Predator‘ and the accompanying MV, a second version of the MV was released – the ‘Suit Dance’ version. In this version, Gikwang is dressed in a suit and performs the choreography – is it just me, or does this make the whole clip even better (read hotter)!
